Interview process: Technical Phone Screen, Client Phone Screen, Skype
Location: Tallahassee, FL
Duration: Through December 2012 with opportunity for 12 month extension
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: THE FOLLOWING ARE THE USUAL, BASIC AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION. THESE FUNCTIONS ARE NOT TO BE CONSTRUED AS AN EXHAUSTIVE LIST OF ALL RESPONSIBILITIES, DUTIES, AND SKILLS REQUIRED.
· Define and/or verify system/programmatic requirements through the analysis of associated business processes, user requirements and operational policies.
· Define, design, and implement complex, multi-tier distributed software applications. Segment and design system layers to support componentized and layered application development, including user interface, business functionality, and database access.
· Research, design and development of Java-based applications and components.
· Research and evaluation of relevant technologies and presentation of alternative solutions.
· Interface with other IT areas and business customers throughout the software development lifecycle.
· Support our existing Java applications and new development efforts as we continue our migration effort to Java / J2EE technologies.
· Produce Technical Requirement and Design Documentation.
· Develop, execute and review unit test plans and results.
· Conduct and participate in frequent code reviews with fellow development team members.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
· Comprehensive and in-depth knowledge of the principles, concepts and theories of software development techniques and systems design as well as the ability to recognize, analyze and determine alternatives and take action to correct problem areas.
· Experience of Java, J2EE and one or more MVC frameworks including Spring or Struts.
· Experience of Java and web application development technologies including Java, JavaScript, Servlets, EJB, JSP, AJAX, HTML, XML, and SQL.
· Experience of Service Oriented Architectures (SOA) and web services and related technologies including Spring web services, SOAP, REST, XML, and XSLT.
· Experience of web and application servers including Apache, Tomcat, and IBM WebSphere.
· Ability to manage multiple tasks, work in a collaborative team environment, understand and be responsive to project and customer needs, and work under tight deadlines.
· Ability to provide assistance for team members in the development and implementation of business solutions.
· Ability to interface with other IT divisions or business customers to provide technical expertise.
· Ability to troubleshoot J2EE production issues.
· Comprehensive understanding of complex clustered topologies of application servers.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
· Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, MIS, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience in a technical field.
· 3+ years experience as a web application developer with strong knowledge of Java, JavaScript, Servlets, EJB, JSP, AJAX, HTML, XML, SQL, and SQL Server.
· 3+ years experience working with J2EE architecture, J2EE patterns and the development of application framework.
· Experience with system development methodologies, tools, and techniques.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
· Agile development methodology experience including Scrum and XP.
· Insurance related application development experience.
· Property & Casualty insurance experience.
