Job Title: Java Coach/Developer
Location: Chicago, IL
Duration: 12 months
 
As a J2EE Developer Coach, you will have the opportunity to work both independently and with a cooperative team on complex projects that span multiple infrastructure components or applications. You will develop your professional network and leadership skills, assisting in the creation and support of IT solutions that enable Client success. Further, you will contribute real value by developing, integrating, and/or supporting in-house and purchased applications and solutions in order to enable Client's J2EE Development staff to solve business problems. This position will be responsible for mentoring and coaching Client's Java development community on best practices, application architecture and design, performance management and testing best practices. The candidate will participate in overall direction setting and strategy execution for Java web application design, tooling and development standards. Lastly, the candidate will use their Java web application architecture, design, development skills and experience to implement middleware centric applications to provide self-service and Enterprise focused applications/services to address developer and security requirements.
 
Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Work as a Developer Coach providing leadership, support and guidance to Client's J2EE Developer community.
Designing and implementing processes, tooling and frameworks to aid in reducing Client's exposure to Security related vulnerabilities
Provide guidance and direction on unit, integration, functional and performance testing of application or middleware infrastructure components.
Working with vendors on the integration of purchased application(s) and/or middleware infrastructure to aide J2EE development and support staff.
Creating and refining policies and documentation to define strategy, and ensure effective Java application development within Client
Communicating information to Client's Java application development community
Level 3 assistance to operations
 
 Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Computer Science, or an equivalent level of work experience
eight+ years' experience in J2EE application development
Extensive experience using IBM Rational Application Developer or Eclipse IDE.
Strong skills in application architecture, application design, Java development and Java language features.
Ability to perform application root cause analysis, JVM memory analysis, diagnostics and defect resolution.
Desire and ability to learn new technologies, and apply them with an enterprise perspective
Excellent teamwork and communication skills, good organizational/planning, and be a self- starter
Past experience as an application developer coach
