Job Role: Vertica /ETL Systems Engineer
Location: Sunnyvale, CA
Duration: 6+months
Job description:
· Design, Develop, Test and deliver projects with Data Warehousing concepts & tool
· Experienced with dimensional database concepts, relational database concepts, data integration initiatives, data movement initiatives
· Define technical requirements, technical and data architecture for big data processing and building highly available and scalable services
· Implement/Develop methods and technology for keeping data secure and private
· Work with noisy, dirty and unstructured data. Data cleansing, scraping unstructured data and converting into structured data
· Implement data processing using map reduce, pig, hive scripts, Hadoop streaming, kafka, scala, spark and scheduling jobs
· Effectively creates clear and concise documentation, produces source to target maps, understands and validates metrics
· Performance tuning of a columnar database /NoSQL database like Vertica
· Ability to drive technical discussions and implementation decision process
· Provide technical recommendations on new technologies and development techniques
· Monitor, diagnose and repair all data loading and processing packages to ensure data integrity of the analysis data.
· Perform data profiling to insure efficient and accurate delivery of data.
· Efficiently manage priorities and organize project deliveries & tasks in an agile and demanding environment
Requirements
· Bachelor's degree in computer science or a data related field.
· Minimum 10 years of experience in data warehousing, operational data stores and large scale implementations
· Minimum 2+ years of hands-on implementation on E2E Vertica implementations Effectively performs - ETL on large data volumes, requirements analysis, data profiling
· Strong knowledge in Vertica Architecture
· Effectively develops complex Vertica SQL coding (use of temp/volatile tables, complex joins, etc.)
· Proficiency in SQL query development and performance
· Proficiency with Unix/Linux shell scripts
· Experience in Performance tuning in Vertica which includes creation of projection, partition, LAP, and segmentation
· Strong Data migration experience from Oracle, legacy systems, MySQL
· Knowledge in DBA specific activities for Vertica
· Demonstrated expertise with software architecture & design, data structures and algorithms
· Demonstrated expertise designing and coding high performance big data applications and services
· Strong problem solving and analytical skills
· Demonstrated ability to work well independently and within a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
